Annual Advent Workshop

First Sunday of Advent, December 1

following worship from 11:15 until 1:00

in the Peaceable Kingdom

Where will Advent take you?

Members of all ages are invited to participate in Immanuel’s annual Advent Workshop, which will follow worship on Sunday, December 1 in the Peaceable Kingdom. There will be a variety of activities reflecting and celebrating the meanings of this special season, as we prepare for the coming of the Christ Child.   Last summer’s learnings at Vacation Bible School about the “Las Posadas” tradition (in Spanish, “The Inns”) will help to set the stage for journeying to Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph.  Bienvenidos!

The main activity at the workshop will be making an Advent wreath for each household, to mark the weeks of Advent at home as we do here at church.   Please let the planners know how many in your household will be participating by signing up on the sheets in the Parlor so that we can be sure to have sufficient materials and refreshments.  You can also help by bringing:

  • your wire wreath ring with candle holders from previous year (or $7.00 to purchase one)

  • $5.00 minimum contribution per wreath for supplies (greens, ribbons, four candles)

  • a pair of scissors (labeled with your name)

  • clippers for greens (labeled with your name)

  • a friend (this is a great opportunity to introduce a friend to Immanuel Church!)

  • a sliced loaf of holiday bread, a plate of cheese and crackers, or some fruit for the refreshments table (the Church School Committee will provide coffee, juice, and milk)

  • something to place under the tree for the Christ Presbyterian Church Christmas Store: toys, books, mittens, gloves, hats, scarves

We hope you will plan to join us for this wonderful intergenerational event as we usher in the new church year!

The Advent Booklet is on sabbatical this year; however,
resources for lighting your Advent wreath at home will be provided

for the four Sundays of the season.
