Putting Faith to Work:
Opportunities for Mission and Service
- Immanuel’s Mission Committee is exploring the possibility of a 1-2 week work trip to Mwandi, Zambia in early 2010. The mission hospital, in particular, is in need of repair - caulking, tiling, plumbing, electrical work, painting. Persons with designated skills are needed, as are willing workers. If you are interested in participating in such a trip, please contact Steve Swigart or Ms. Dow in the church office (414-276-4757).
- Immanuel Church’s Waverly House is a new site for YMCA “One on One” mentoring, the middle school program for MPS students that emphasizes literacy and writing skills. We will begin hosting students from the Milwaukee Education Center this Thursday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. New mentors are welcome; the Y will provide training and on site coordination. Additional information about mentoring is available on the tables in the Great Hall. You may also visit the Y’s web site, www.ymcamke.org, and click on “Mentoring,” or contact Tom Neubauer.
- Supporting the CHRIST CHURCH CHRISTMAS TOY STORE is a holiday tradition at Immanuel Church. Christ Presbyterian Church, at 20th and Walnut Streets in Milwaukee's central city, will hold its annual Toy Store event on Saturday, December 12th. The store gives children in the congregation and the neighborhood an opportunity to select $1.00 gifts for their brothers, sisters, and friends -- and to get a new hat and pair of mittens for themselves. It is our practice to collect items for the store and label them with a Christmas greeting at our Advent Workshop. We welcome donations (new and gently used) of games, puzzles, coloring books and crayons, school supplies, books, toys -- and hats, mittens, and scarves. Join the children of the Immanuel Church School in contributing items for this project. Leave your contributions in the coatroom, or bring them to the Advent Workshop—Sunday, November 29.
- The Immanuel ReSale Shop is located in the lower level of Waverly House (1035 N. Waverly Place) and is open Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Members and friends are invited to stop and shop. Proceeds help to support the mission work of the church.
