Christian Education for Youth

“Second Sundays” -- Students in grades 7 through 12 meet monthly on the second Sunday and also enjoy special projects, outings, and retreats.  The group takes an annual trip to Crivitz, Wisconsin for the Great Christmas Tree Hunt.   The youth select and cut trees to adorn the Sanctuary, Parlor, Dining Room, and Parish House.

Mission -- Biannually, the youth participate in an urban mission program.  During the summer of 2005, nine youth and three adults traveled to Cleveland, Ohio to participate in the Inward Bound program through Habitat for Humanity.   They learned first-hand the realities of urban life and made a commitment to “live simply so that others may simply live.” Giving up unnecessary luxuries and distractions for the week, they focused on the neighborhoods in which they worked and the people they served.  The youth group also annually participates in the Christmas Toy Store at Christ Presbyterian Church, helping younger children experience the joy of giving during the holiday season.

Confirmation -- High school students who are ready to begin an exploration in faith oriented to confirming their faith engage in a special program of worship, study, and service with the ministers.  Immanuel has reframed the traditional “confirmation class” of early teen years to a mentoring and experiential process for older youth, focusing on issues of belief, values, vocation, and identity.  The next confirmation class will run during the 2007-2008 school year for 11th and 12th graders.
