Creation Sunday - June 8

Celebrate God's Good Creation

and Learn to be Stewards of the Earth

The children of the church school and their teachers will celebrate the good gift of God’s creation on Sunday, June 8, with their annual Creation Sunday activities --  planting flowers around the church grounds, and making special feeders for the neighborhood birds to enjoy.

The adults will gather following worship that morning for a “Life Together” conversation about Immanuel’s new commitment to “green” church practices.   The “Green Church Task Force” will provide an overview of their report and recommendations, encouraging environmental responsibility at church and at home, and suggest ways that we can adjust our behavior to care for the earth.

At noon, everyone is invited to gather in the Dining Room for lunch -- “garden salad,” sandwiches, and (the specialty of the day!) “dirt cake.”

And after lunch, all are invited to walk across the street to Juneau Park to assist with our “adopt-a-park” project.  Volunteers will help to remove invasive weeds and clean debris from the park -- helping to beautify and preserve our beautiful neighborhood park overlooking Lake Michigan.  Interested persons should bring work clothes, gloves, and a dandelion digger (or other small garden tools) and meet in the Great Hall after lunch.  A representative of the Park People will meet the Immanuel group in the park to offer direction and provide lawn bags for “the fruits of our labors.”

Those planning to stay for lunch and/or to volunteer with the park clean up are asked to sign up on the sheets in the Parlor, or to call the church office (414-276-4757).
